The Courage to Stand Out

Being successful in business requires standing out. There’s no way around it.

  • Being visible in the market place (advertising, networking)
  • Self promotion and marketing (why should we hire YOU instead of the other guy?)
  • Introducing innovative products and services (being different from everyone else)

Common marketing advice says: stand out and be noticed. Do something different. Differentiate yourself. Be visible in your community. Network. Speak. Write and promote.

It’s easy to nod along and think:

That’s an awesome idea, I really should do it.

And at the same time it brings up some of our primal fears.

Fear that stops people in their tracks. I’ve witnessed it so many times:

  • Realtors hanging around the office chatting instead of prospecting
  • Fundraisers busying themselves with reports, stats and emails instead of contacting prospective donors
  • Entrepreneurs shying away from differentiating themselves in the market
  • Home based business people reluctant to self promote
  • Internet marketers afraid to post a sales page or promote their product

I’ve been there myself

  • Spent months of time and hundreds of dollars getting a real estate license, only to have my new career end before it started because I was afraid to pick up the phone and call people
  • Sabotaged the success of several businesses because I was too shy to network
  • Delayed my dream of becoming a motivational speaker for nearly 20 years by thinking: “who am I to do this?”

I spent years of my life (and many thousands of dollars) working on overcoming my fears.

In this presentation, I’ll distill what I’ve learned over the years and share the bits that *really* worked.

Who is this for?

Ideal for small and home based businesses, new entrepreneurs and wannabe entrepreneurs. (Especially the shy folks.)

I can work with time slots between 20 and 60 minutes. Longer presentations include some interactive (and fun!) exercises.

I will adapt the presentation for your particular audience.
